Mike's Daily Affirmation

Every day is a treasure to cherish, and to live ever-so-mindfully in the "here-&-now" as if it were my last, while striving to make it the best yet.  I'm thankful for each & every new day I arise to, and for the endless opportunities and capabilities that are both my good fortune and greatest challenges.  I resolve to make wise use of this abundance – enriching my life spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and financially – and then sharing my good fortune to benefit the world around me and the people I love.  I am committed to living a life that is balanced, focused, calm, kind, and caring; and to fostering decency and justice through my actions by being forthright & courageous – yet tactful, constructive, and Socratic.  These blessings are mine to nurture and to freely share in my service to humankind and the world that nurtures us.  I humbly apologize to anyone whose feelings I've hurt or whom I've harmed.  I will diligently seek the goodness in others, no matter how different we might seem, then build upon what I’ve discovered.  I know I can make a positive contribution to peace and prosperity in the world.

  1. Lately, I've been contemplating a long-ago relationship, with much sadness because I brought much sadness and hurt to her life. And I've considered writing to her, quoting from my affirmation: "I humbly ask forgiveness from those whose feelings I've hurt or whom I've harmed."

But asking her forgiveness might bring yet another hurt to her – after so many years – by putting the focus on my emotional well-being, not on hers. So, I've changed my affirmation to read "apologize," in order to acknowledge my actions and moral responsibilities.

There might well be times when someone can accept a heartfelt apology that is offered sincerely, but still not be able to forgive an offense. And for that, I'm truly sorry.
